Summer is not even over, yet the major retail stores are already getting ready for the upcoming holiday season by announcing their free layaway program to get shoppers a head start on all their holiday needs.
Kmart is the first one to kick off the holiday fun by airing the first Christmas commerical of the year, with only 105 days left.
The commercial aired several times this past Monday with a gingerbread man surprising a woman at work with the announcement saying;
"Don't let the holidays sneak up on you. Shop early with Kmart free layaway. … Kmart. Get in, get more Christmas."
While many consumers are excited to get their holiday shopping started with and are eager to use the layaway program, many took to the Facebook page of Kmart complaining about the early start.
Kmart said that this regarding the ad and it airing so early;
"We're just really excited for the holidays and layaway!"
They do plan on changing up the layaway ad and are not going into further deatils yet about their holiday plans.
The layaway program is something that will help those who need a little extra time to pay for those much needed Christmas gifts.
Between September 8 and November 23, customers can take advntage of the Kmart no service fee layaway program for new purchases in store and also online.
Kmart is not the only store getting ready for the holidays early, Walmart announced their free layaway program last month and beginning September 13 through December 13, you can take advantage of their free layaway program as well, with no opening fee.
Walmart's chief merchandising and marketing officer Duncan Mac Naughton said this;
“Times are tough and it’s not easy for many Americans – they are watching every penny, All year long, but especially during the holidays, our customers need a low price leader. This year, we are committed to doing everything we did last year to help Americans save money – plus more. More savings, more layaway items and our commitment that they can give their families a great Christmas on a budget.”
You can use the layaway progrm at both stores to purchase electronics, toys, jewelry, appliances, and also sporting goods and apparel. This year at Walmart you can also put automotive electronics like speakers and car radio systems on layaway as well.
Walmart also introduced the new, "tear-pad" slips that will allow you to put large bulky items on layaway without bringing them to the counter.
This will come in handy for items like basketball goals, and trampolines.
As always they will match the price of any local competitor's price with a printed ad for the same item.This will also be good for the layaway items.
So, though the summer sun is still shining, take advantage of the free holiday layaway programs at your local Kmart and Walmart stores to beat the holiday rush that will be happening soon.
