and the jazz community celebrates with offerings of improvisation, intensity and joy!
Over at Jazz Alley Thursday through Sunday The Gypsy All Stars Ft. Gypsy Kings family, Mario Reyes and George Reyes two shows nightly then on Monday in celebration of the winter solstice, David Lanz for one night. Then Poncho Sanchez swings into town to help you celebrate. Friday the 27th through Monday Dec 30th with a special New Year's Eve show on Tuesday the 31st. The New Year opens with Pearl Django with Special guest Bucky Pizzarelli Jan2 thru Sunday Jan 5th.
Celebrating 35 years of jazz guitar and vocals together Tuck and Patti return to Jazz Alley for two night Tuesday the 7th thru Wednesday night the 8th. And add momentum to start of a new year Jeff Lorber Fusion, featuring Brian Bromberg, Patrick Lamb and Gary Novak Thursday the 9th throuugh Sunday Jan. the 12.

other Stars at the alley worth a mention in January included Amel Larrieux Thursday Jan 16th through Sunday the 19th, Grace Kelly with the Marc Seales Trio for two nights Tuesday Jan. 21st
and Peter wite Thurs the 23rd through the weekend.

Seattle's reigning queen of Jazz, Greta Matassa has a number of performances during the holiday season that are worth catching. Thursday evening the 19th at 8p-10 with no cover at The Cast Wine and Ale House 2350 Califonria Ave SW. "Jazz with Bass and Voice only" I'm sure Greta will grace the house with some holiday favorites in a minimalist style that will heartfelt and heartwarming. On Sunday Greta performs with her Trio with two dinner shows 5-6"30, and 7:30-8pm at Dockside Bistro in Olympia
501 Columbia St. Nw Olympia, WA. 98501 and for New year's Eve for something intimate and soulful, Greta performs with her quartet at Tula's on 2nd avenue. You'll need to make a reservation for this, believe me. 206-443-4221 to make it happen.

There are other notable events worth consideration including Michael Powers who's been jet setting all over the west and is home for the holidays. Wed the 18th you can catch Michael at Pacific Place 6th and Pine for an all ages Holiday show from Noon-2pm. Michael will feature music from his CDs "Funky Holiday" and "Frosty The Bluesman"

On Friday the 20th the first of two nights Michael perfomrs with his trio at Grazie's in Bothell on the Bothell-Everett hwy from 7:30=10:30pm in a Holiday style.

Michael continues to celebrate the holiday with a performance on Sunday the 22nd at Unity of South Sound Church - 3200 SW Dash Pt. Road. It's the Knutzen Family Theatre at Dumas Bay Centre. Michael is a part of the service at this unique venue and invites all to celebrate at this all ages event. On the 27th you can Michael in the Huarachitos Cocina Restaurant Seattle 4219 S. Othello St. 7:30-10:30. It's a part of the grand reopening celebration of the restaurant. As for a final footnote to the year, Michael is at Billy Baroo's for the 28th and for New Year's Eve. on Saturday the 28th from 8p-11 and of course New Year's eve, from 9p-1am. Billy Baroo's is located at 13500 Interurban Ave S. In Tukwila. 206-588-2763 to make your reservation for either occasion.

Jazz icon Deems is busy celebrating the holidays as well, on the 20th you can catch him at the Ship Canal Grill on Lake Union from 7:30p-10:30pm and then on December 22nd at the Snoqualime Casino in North Bend at the 12 Moons Asian Bistro from 7:00p-11:00pm and a week later for a return performance in the same venue, same time and puts a foot note on 2013 with a performance at The Tulalip Casino from 5:00pm - 10:00pm. Celebrate the season of lights and the coming new year in whatever way that pleases you. Just remmeber to be safe in your travels and we'll see you in the new year.
