Tired of Doggie Breath?

Fresh Breath Buster treats ready to eat!
Fresh Breath Buster treats ready to eat!
Kaitlin Schneider

I vividly remember the smell of homemade chocolate chip cookies, fresh from the oven. You can’t find a store-bought cookie to give them a run for the money if you tried, homemade is just better. This week, instead of picking up that bag of dog treats at the store, take a little extra time and bake your own.

“Honey Breath Buster Treats” are one of my favorite dog biscuit recipes to make. My dogs love eating them, and I really appreciate the resulting better breath. This dough is quick and easy to make (only 8 ingredients), and makes about 2 dozen treats.

Honey Breath Buster Biscuits
1 ½ cup flour (whole wheat is best if you have it)
1 ½ cup bisquick baking or pancake mix
¼ cup of finely chopped fresh parsley
1/3 cup of milk
1 egg
2 Tablespoons each of margarine, olive oil, honey

Combine all ingredients until dough is well mixed and forms a ball. Flour a nonstick surface and roll out dough to a thickness of ¼ inch. Use cookie cutters to cut out your biscuit shapes. Bake at 375 degrees for 22 min or until golden. These treats don’t contain the same preservatives as store bought treats and cannot be expected to last as long, but it’s a fine tradeoff for healthier treats for your pooch! Store in an airtight container, and use within 1 ½ weeks.

Happy Baking!

I made a batch of these treats for my dog. He loved them! It was nice to be able to give him fresh, healthier treats instead of treats full of preservatives!

I will have to try these. My dog has horrible breath. Put this on my to do list for the weekend!
