Tips to pick a Variety of Bean for your Organic Garden

Most types of beans do not need a long growing season so most beans will grow well in the short growing season in St. Paul, Minnesota.  Beans grow well here since the environment is right for beans to grow.  Still you may want to pick a variety of bean that has a short growing season that is less then 70 days for the best results.

String beans come in different colors like purple, yellow or the most popular green.  The variety of string bean you pick will grow in a bush or a pole bean.  If you do not like to set up poles for your beans to grow up on then you should get a bush bean for your garden.  You may find that when you harvest the beans the pole beans may be easier for you to find the beans.

You can grow any type of bean in an organic garden.  Open pollinated beans are good since you can save some of your beans to plant in your garden next year and you will be sure that they are organic.

Plant different varieties of beans far apart so they stay pure to their type of bean.  Beans planted close to each other will cross pollinate and if you use the seeds for the next year they may not be desirable.
