Tips to make baby's first holiday special

See also

Parents, is this your baby’s first holiday? As parents you may be looking for ways to create traditions to celebrate as a family, but your little bundle of joy is not old enough to fully participate. There are many ways to make family memories that include new babies in the festivities.

The key to keeping baby happy during the holidays is going to be lights and music! Anything with sparkly lights and happy music should entertain your baby. You can also include nighttime drives or walks through the holiday lights. A drive through the lights will help sooth your baby and introduce them to the joys of the holidays.

The holidays are a perfect time to introduce your baby to characters like Rudolph and Frosty. Pick up holiday books, read holiday books together---your favorite classics, be sure to find them in a child’s or baby version. Your little one can also learn about holiday characters watching holiday movies or shows.

Malls are some of the happiest places during the holidays. The decorative lights, bright red ornaments, and twinkling lights hanging from every corner will keep your little bundle of joy quite entertained. You might see carolers. On second thought, you might want to put the little one in a sling or carrier and go caroling. Baby will enjoy listening to the singing voices and it might make a fun family tradition.

Find free holiday concerts at schools, churches, synagogues and community centers. Go to a holiday parade, visit Santa, and yes some little ones may scream on Santa’s lap, but the pictures and memories will be worth the fuss. Pictures are worth a thousand words, memories.

Pictures, pictures, pictures, the little bundle of joy may not remember the first holidays, but you can be creative----take the pictures and create ornaments for each year, to place on the tree. Dress baby up as an elf or candy cane, if they are small, place them in a stocking. You will have the cutest pictures, ornaments and holiday memories for your little one to enjoy as he or she gets older.

Don’t forget, most important, sharing----surprise your neighbors and family with treats and bring baby along to drop off.
