Tips to keep your pet healthy for the New Year

With the starting of the New Year , it is a great time to start off on the right foot with your pets. So, here are some tips to keep your pet healthy:

  • Feed them a good quality food that is free of corn, soy, and animal by-product, wheat as they are known to trigger allergies.
  • Daily Exercise for longevity and optimum weight, as overweight pets are at risk for diabetes and other serious diseases. Watch the protein amount in the treats you give them. Refrain from feeding them table food.
  • Yearly check ups with the vet as a preventative as well as keeping vaccinations up to date.
  • Always provide fresh water at each meal to keep them well hydrated.
  • Use Stainless steel bowls for their food and water as it is easy to clean and does not hold bacteria.
  • Basic Grooming ie: brushing, nails cut, and regular baths for normal hygiene. Do it Yourself Dog Washes are great too!
  • Supplements like vitamins and minerals to ensure they get the proper nutrients.
  • Take your dog out with you for car rides, to the beach, and the park. He or she will love you for that and will be more sociable and what a great ice breaker to meet people.
  • Take he or she to the dog park and play, fetch. Great bonding!
  • Even some dog obedience, agility or rally classes. Have fun with them. They truly appreciate it.

When applying these tips you will reap the rewards of a healthy pet. You owe it to them! Happy 2013!
