Medical bills have become so incredibly large that almost nobody can afford them. The United States spends more on healthcare than Japan, Austrailia, France, China, U.K., Italy, Canada, Brazil, and Spain combined. If the United States healthcare system were a country it would have the sixth largest economy.
In 1960 the average healthcare per person was $147, now its $8,086

During 2013 Americans will spend $280 billion dollars on prescription drugs
Prescription drugs in American cost 50% more than they do in any other country. In the United States prescription painkillers kill more people than heroin and cocaine combined. According to the CDC half of Americans use prescription drugs, and one-third use two or more on a regular basis. 10% use five or more on a regular basis. More women take antidepressants than in any other country, and teens are taking 1.2 central nervous system drugs regularly as prescribed for ADHD and depression. Children in the United States are three times more likely to be describe prescription antidepressants than children in Europe are. About ¾ of a million people are rushed to the emergency rooms per year with adverse reactions to prescription drugs.
In America you are 64 times more likely to be killed by a doctor than a gun
People in Puerto Rico have a greater life expectancy than people in America do. It has been estimated that medical care overcharges Americans $10.2 billion dollars every year. Billing advocates say that over 90% of the medical bills they audit have “gross overcharges.”
In 1965 1 out of every 50 Americans was on Medicaid, now 1 out of every 6 is
When Medicaid was first established by Congress it was estimated $12 billion would be spent by the year 1990, instead it cost $110 billion, and it will cost the federal government $600 billion this year. Even if you have medical insurance there is not guarantee that medical bills will not bankrupt you.
