Tips on choosing the right kennel for your dog while you are away

Everyone needs a vacation now and then but when you have a dog, it becomes a concern regarding who and where to leave your pet. Although most people prefer to travel with their pet, it is not always feasible. In the best of circumstances, you could leave your beloved pet with a trusted friend or family member but sometimes it is necessary to board your dog. You can check into some of the local Rockford-area boarding facilities as listed below or search for one closest to your home.

In some cases, you can bring your small dog along on your trip but larger dogs are more difficult to accommodate. Leaving a dog behind can be worrisome and it is important to find a good kennel that provides the best care for your companion.

Do an extensive search of area kennels, call them and make an appointment with each to schedule a visit prior to leaving your pet. Ask any and all questions of concern such as their routines, procedures, insurance and bonding, how often the pets are fed, exercised and socialized. Are dogs kept alone or with others of similar personalities, how many dogs in each kennel and how much staff is on the premises at all times. Be sure to check out the equipment and cleanliness where your dog will be kept.

Once you have made a decision on a kennel, check with that facility again prior to boarding your dog to know what all requirements are and what necessities your dog will need. Most require all pets be up-to-date with all vaccinations. This is not only to protect your dog but others as well.

Some boarding facilities have other perks and amenities to make your dogs stay a great pleasure and peace of mind and heart for you. Most have emergency vet care in the facility, training, bathing and grooming options. When doing your homework, you can find a good, reputable kennel that will provide all the love and care your pet deserves.
