'Tips for Jesus' strikes again: $35.5K tip for waiter in New York

Well, according to the "Tips for Jesus" Instagram page, which has the tagline, "Doing the Lord's work, one tip at a time," a waiter named Andrew in New York should be one happy man.

That’s because the latest receipt uploaded to the social media site’s popular page shows the huge $35,500 tip on a $391.95 bill for The Smith restaurant at 1900 Broadway in New York, dated a mere 14 hours ago as of this writing, having swiped an American Express card on December 5, 2013, at 10:37 p.m.

Perhaps there was a bit of bubbly served in magnum sizes during this foray, because it seems like the big tipper had a bit of a problem with their addition on the receipt, as witnessed by the scratch outs and hard-to-read addition.

The best this Christian journalist can figure is that $391.95 plus $35,500 equals what looks like becomes the $35,891.95 sum listed in the “total” field. As for the signature, it’s the gobbly gook of a doctor’s John Hancock – or mine, at times.

I love it – I hope it’s real, and that these “Tips for Jesus” type of random acts of kindness can make John 14:6 just as popular as John 3:16, and turn a world’s heart toward Christ for salvation during this special season.

Sure thing the 43,875 Instagram followers that the account enjoys will continue to swell during this time. Oddly, there is no official Facebook page for the venture as of this writing.
