There is no way around it: eating in Europe is expensive. However, it is possible to eat well in Europe. Here are some tips on eating in Europe without breaking the bank.
1. Have a picnic from the grocery store.
One of the best ways to save money is to buy food at the local grocery store and have a picnic in one of Europe’s many beautiful parks. One of the best dining experiences is to grab a baguette and some sandwich meat and eat at the Tuileries gardens in Paris or grab some fruits, vegetables and meat from La Boqueria and eat at Parc de la Ciutadella in Barcelona.
2. Be aware of cover charges.
Some restaurants, especially in Italy, include cover charges for eating at the restaurant. The cover charge varies depending on the restaurant. Some restaurants charge for the bread while others charge for a seat.
3. Eat a larger lunch to avoid spending a lot for dinner.
Since lunch is generally cheaper than dinner, try to eat a bigger lunch so you don’t have to spend as much money for dinner. Some suggestions would be getting several tapas at a tapas bar while in Spain or eat pasta at lunch and then grab a pizza by the slice for dinner from a vendor.
