Husband’s all across America should mark their calendars for a very special holiday coming up. September 16th is referred to as Wife Appreciation Day and commemorates the importance of everything that a wife does for her husband.

It is a day for recognizing the little things your wife does for you, and gives you the chance to say thank you and show her how much she is appreciated. Sometimes husbands tend to forget the little things their wives do like, matching your socks, tending to you when you are sick, or getting you more ice for your drink. It’s the simple things that make your wives who they are and it’s nice to show them they are appreciated so on this day, do something spontaneous! Make dinner reservations at her favorite restaurant and surprise her or bring her home some flowers.

The thing that separates Wife Appreciation Day from other holidays, such as Valentine’s Day or Anniversaries, is that this event allows you to offer something surprising, thoughtful and creative and that there will be no expectations, only a surprised, astounded woman who will know she is loved and appreciated by her caring & loving husband.

Sometimes husbands forget that little things add up and takes time. Simple things like tying your tie, matching your socks, getting you more ice or sweepings up mud ever time you track it in the house is worth a thank you.

So on this day, do something she's not expecting. Take some time to plan out a special day or a weekend getaway, a night out "without" the kids, or a romantic dinner at home. Maybe just a nice walk, just the two of you would be a good way to be alone so you can tell her that she is appreciated.

How to celebrate this holiday:

  • Make dinner reservations at her favorite restaurant, but do not tell her, just tell her not to make plans for the evening that you have something important to do and you need her to come along. Surprise her by pulling up at the restaurant and express how appreciated she is and give her a lovely gift at the dinner table.
  • Plan a surprise dinner at home! Make a small quiet candlelit dinner for two in your own kitchen and dining area. Have someone baby-sit the kids for the night, and take advantage of your time alone. Don’t let the evening end with dinner, let the romance continue on into the night by cuddling up to a great movie and wine on the couch, in front of the fireplace or whatever you choose.
  • Plan a nice walk on the beach or a weekend getaway, just the two of you. If you have kids, have someone watch them for the weekend and spend it expressing how much you appreciate your wife and all that she does for you and your family.
  • Bring her home a beautiful boquet of her favorite flowers. We all love getting flowers.
  • You can also send an ecard to her expressing your love and appreciation. Remember, it is the little things that count. A great website for romantic e-cards is 123greetings.com .
