Tips for attending Winter X Games 2012 in Aspen, Colo.

The ESPN Winter X Games are here at Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, CO.  The lights are up and the athletes are ready to go big or go home!  Here are a few tips if you are going to spectate the games:

  1. Take public transport- There is only permit parking available at the event.  Public transport is the way to go.  You can bus in from Aspen or park at the Intercept Lot which is a huge parking lot for spectators.
  2. Wear warm, sturdy footwear- Walking around the venue, you will be walking over snow most of the time.  Wearing warm footwear will keep your feet warm and dry.
  3. Use Yaktraks or MICROSspikes- These when added to your footwear give you the extra traction when walking over icy, slick snow.  With the thousands of spectators compacting the snow, moisture rises to the surface and refreezes when it comes in contact with the cold air.  Wearing extra traction devices like Yaktraks or MICROspikes will help you scale to the top of the halfpipe.
  4. Stand on the Skier's/Rider's right wall of the pipe-  There is a ton of action going on at the Games.  If you want to catch it all then place yourself on the Skier's/Rider's right wall.  This way you can watch the action in the Superpipe and watch all the snowmobile action or Slopestyle course right next to the pipe.
  5. Check out X-Fest- If you want free stuff, head to X Fest.  There are plenty of free give aways at the Games and many different contests to enter.  Grab a bag from one of the vendors and then proceed to fill it up with stickers, posters, and other free things.  Also, X Fest is the best place to meet the athletes who typically do autograph signings at their sponsors booth.
