Tips for a fun Super Bowl party on a budget (Photos)

It's almost that time again... Time to bring together great friends, great food, and great commercials, and celebrate the biggest football game of the year; it's time for Super Bowl XLVII! Hosting a party in your own home can be much cheaper than spending the afternoon at a bar or restaurant, and it doesn't have to break the bank. Read on for my favorite tips on having an affordable Super Bowl party.

Use coupons and sales to save big:

This is kind of the centerpiece of the event, right? You want enough food to feed a crowd all afternoon, but want to keep it from breaking your monthly grocery budget. And you're in luck - this time of year there are so many coupons and savings to be had on foods like chips, dips, soda, and other snacks. Make sure to check out my list of tips in Couponing 101 to find some resources for coupons at your favorite grocery store, or check at shops like Walgreens, Walmart, and Safeway - you can usually find their latest sales ad near the front of the store.

Make one big show-stopping main dish:

Another way to save is to use inexpensive ingredients to make one big show-stopping dish to get all of the attention, and then surround it with other simple and inexpensive snacks. My favorite main dish is to build a Super Bowl Snackadium; it looks complicated, but it's honestly really easy to build, and is guaranteed to make your party memorable!

Use inexpensive picks as sides:

You don't need anything fancy for Super Bowl party foods, and things that can be eaten with your fingers are the most popular. Save time and money by stocking up on the deliciously cheap store-brand chicken wings from the Walgreens Nice! line of frozen snacks as a side dish. Everyone loves wings, and no one will know these yummy wings came from a box! Another tip is to use cheap staples to make more creative appetizers, like these Bacon, Steak, Potato & Cheese Kabobs, using a super surprising ingredient... Tator tots!

Cheap Super Bowl party decor:

Don't spend a bunch of bucks on fancy decorations that you'll just end up throwing away later, use fun free printables to make your own! They'll be more personalized, custom made, and super fun. These Super Bowl cupcake toppers and Super Bowl water bottle labels are sure to be a hit - and guests can choose goodies that match their favorite team.
