The Tippy the Squirrel video has helped a random rodent attain Internet stardom for doing something usually reserved for dramatic Hollywood screen starlets: fainting!
A video clip of the latest Internet-famous critter was posted to YouTube just before Thanksgiving and is slowly but steadily approaching viral status with 200,000-plus views as of Dec. 3 and counting.
In the clip, Tippy does things every other squirrel does every day; he plays in some piled-up leaves, he digs around a bit, looking for nuts and berries and such. But in between, he faints. Just...faints. Then he gets right back up and goes back to what he was doing before.
Tippy the Squirrel Video: Little Guy Faints Repeatedly, Amuses Internet Endlessly
Nobody seems to know why the so-called fainting squirrel faints over and over during the video. One comment on the clip suggested the furry little forager was drunk on "fermented berries," while another simply mused, "Narcoleptic?" Many people, however, just wanted to share how "cute" they think the video of Tippy is.
Other viewers voiced their concerns for the animal's health and even a possible threat to the general public, though. "The thing has rabies or neurological damage... what the literal f--k is wrong with you people? How is this "cute" or "funny" in any way, shape, or form?" (Remember the poor two-headed kitty that barely lived long enough to become an Internet sensation, but did? RIP Duecy.)
Responses to this last school of thought were quick to point out the episodes could also relate to something as simple as low blood pressure. "It only happens when he stands up. It has something to do with the blood flow to his brain." (Whatever the case, we hope the little animal who is getting big love on the Internet this week is doing just fine, storing nuts and whatever else he needs to do before heavy winter falls.)
