Tippy the fainting squirrel has become an Internet sensation. The viral video of the black squirrel going about his nut-gathering business and repeatedly collapsing on his side is equal parts comical and yet concurrently sad and peculiar.
The Huffington Post on Dec. 4 says that despite the entertainment value of the tipsy little fur ball, the burning question is: What exactly is causing these 'fainting spells' to befall our poor friend?
The video shows the little guy doing what squirrels do – With jerky movements he pops about, gathering things up into his tiny claws and erratically shifting his head side to side. Then no less than four times, Tippy just keels over for a moment before bouncing up as if nothing happened.
Did he get into some holiday egg nog? Did he accidently eat a hallucinogenic mushroom? Some have offered actual medical explanations such as orthostatic hypotension, forms of myotonia and heart failure.
