Tipper Gore, Al Gore: Did cheating affair cause their divorce? (Video)

Why did Tipper Gore and Al Gore split to divorce? Was there a political cheating scandal looming in the background? Did Tipper Gore stop recycling? All of the above are reasons oozing from the press after news of the couple's divorce hit the press.

"This is very much a mutual and mutually supportive decision," says soon-to-be-ex-husband Al Gore, adding the divorce decision was one that came after "long and careful consideration."

The two Gores were married for 40 years so Gore fans and others speculate what would cause a break-up after such a long marriage.

"Something doesn't add up here. And part of it is the math," writes Culture Map Houston. If you've been together for four decades, you must know how to work through a rough patch. Did Tipper suddenly stop recycling or something? Did she refuse to wash out her Coke cans before tossing them into the bin?"

And The Associated Press addressed the potential of an affair saying there was "no affair involved in separation", quoting the couple "grew apart" over the years.

Gore added in his statement to the media that he requests "privacy" for him and his family and that no additional comments would be added in the future.

"Their lives had gotten more and more separated," a source said to The Associated Press. The couple has four children - Karenna, Kristin, Sarah and Albert - and three grandchildren.
