Dec. 14: Wolf Park Christmas party. 1-4 p.m. Come out and visit Santa and enjoy watching the wolves as they receive treats. This year Santa and his elves will arrive on the Purdue Boilermaker Special Train (link). Kids can help put the treats on the wolves/foxes treat tree at 1 p.m. While there, browse the gift shop for gifts. Clothing, educational games and toys as well as unique animal themed everyday items are available. Family friendly, fee charged (link).

Dec. 14: Riverside Skating Rink will host Santa and his elves (link) in the 9-11 a.m. session. For this session, 22$ per child with adult, 12$ for additional child with same adult. The skate center is now open on a regular schedule (link).

Deer harvest is over on the NICHES properties and in Prophetstown State Park. NICHES (link) properties are now open for hiking, dusk to dawn.

Lilly Nature Center is open regular hours (link). Wabashika Nature Center is closed for the season. The main office at Prophetstown St. Park (link) has a small nature center in the lobby. This is open 8-5, Mon.-Fri.

Prophetstown Farm is on winter hours now (link). There is no gate fee for the winter season.

Dec. 14: Christmas bird count. Sycamore Audubon (link) will be conducting the Christmas bird count and help is always welcome. Printable count form (link).

If you haven’t already done so, it’s time to winterize your beautiful new rain barrels. Check out the (link) from WREC for instructions.

Should we get snow, cross country skiers have some great skiing trails at Prophetstown St. Park and Battlefield County Park. Trails are not groomed so you may have to cut your own set of tracks.

Dec. 12-20: The suspension bridge at Turkey Run will be closed (link). Although the bridge is newly repaired from spring floods, this closing is to repair the stairs leading up to the bridge.
