This annual event will be held at Tapawingo Park on Saturday, July 12. Family friendly/ free. Event (link)
The day starts with a 5K, registration at 7 A.M., run at 8 A.M. The kids Water Droplet run is at 9 A.M.
At 9 A.M., things really get going when the booths open and the music starts. Tippecanoe County naturalist Mary Cutler will be on hand with games and crafts. Sign up for the fishing derby; use your own equipment or the available loaners.
Wabash River Enhancement Corporation’s (link) booth will feature information on the river front’s future. NICHES (link), INPAWS (link) are among the groups which will be on hand with great information. Tippecanoe County Historical Association will have their “History on Tour” (link) travelling exhibit there.
You can bring a picnic lunch or sample wares from several food vendors which will be in the park.
It wouldn’t be Riverfest without music and musicians will be entertaining throughout the day. Local musicians from SAMI (link) will be on the stage near the playground. Dulcimer Gathering (link) will also be playing.
One of the favorite activities of the day is the canoe races. The Ouiatenon Brigade donates the use of their voyageur canoes for the races. The river level should insure safe races, even if a canoe dumps!
Children’s activities include free games, a bounce house and pony rides. The balloon guy will be on hand with his menagerie of balloon animals. Columbian Park Zoo will make an appearance with some animals (link).
Bring your own lawn chairs as bench seating is limited. On street parking is very limited but the parking garage across from the park will be free during the event. (Parking gate tickets will be issued, but there will not be a charge as you leave.)
