March 5: Audubon Junior Nature Club, Lily Nature Center, 6-7:30 p.m. “You’re so cold blooded”. This program is for 5th & 6th graders and is sponsored by the Sycamore Audubon Society (link).
March 6: Wednesdays in the Wild. Emerald Ash Borer, Lily Nature Center, 7-9 p.m. Cliff Sadof will present this program. This is a must for ash tree owners. He will give you the tools to manage the emerald ash borer invasion of Tippecanoe County ash trees. Prof. Sadol (link) is one of the country’s premier experts on the emerald ash borer (EAB).
March 7: NICHES (link), Tippecanoe County Public Library (link), 7-8 p.m. Born of Fire: Returning Controlled Burns to the Indiana Landscape will be the program presented by Gus Nyberg. Gus is the director of NICHES and certified in controlled burning to restore native plant areas.
March: Exhibit on 1913 flood (link), West Lafayette Library. This small exhibit I located in the class display near the elevators. The exhibit features photos not on public display for many years, news paper clippings and a written paper on the devastating flood. The 1913 flood is still the highest recorded level at Lafayette. In comparison, the 2005 flood was 7’ less in Lafayette. The 2005 flood on the Wildcat did set a record.
Under the train overpass on US231 South is a block from the original overpass and marks the water level for the 1913 flood.
