Trails conditions: Currently all trails are open. Lower level trails are wet. Local streams are at a normal level and there is no expectation of a rise. Maintain caution when crossing Burnett’s Creek on the Wabash Heritage Trail.
Migration update: Early Sandhill cranes are coming in to the Jasper Pulaski (link) area. Early morning and dusk viewers at the observation tower will see some cranes. There are not enough cranes yet for daytime viewing of large flocks in the surrounding fields. Wild turkeys are preparing for spring nesting and may be seen gleaning in corn fields near wooded areas. Kankakee Sands (link) area has several rafters of turkeys as does Turkey Run and Shades.
Wildflower update: Watch for skunk cabbage blooms at Clegg’s Garden, Ross Hills County Park or other marshy areas.
Feb. 16: Once Upon a Garden Seminar. This is a Master Gardener (link) Workshop, but is also open to the public. This workshop counts as 5 hours MG credit. It will be held in Princeton (link) in the Lowell North Auditorium on Old Hwy. 41 N. Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. CST; seminar 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Travel time about 4 hours.
