Rockville: Raccoon Lake Beach (link) is open during daylight hours while life guards are on duty. Currently, week-ends only through Labor Day. Gate fee of $5.00 per in-state car, $7.00 per out-of-state car. Travel time is about an hour and a half
Marshall: Turkey Run State Park (link) Aquatic Center is closed for the season.
Lake Michigan: Indiana National Lakeshore West Beach (link) is open daily at 9 a.m. until just after sunset through Labor Day. The gate fee is $6.00 per car. Travel time a bit over 2 hours, depending on traffic.
Indiana National Lakeshore Beverly Shores (link) access points are open dawn to dusk daily. There are no life guards and no fees. There are a number of parking lots. Kemel Rd. lot has restrooms and is several hundred feet from the beach access. The Dunbar lot near the historic century homes is across the street from an access point, but has no restrooms. Lake View access has picnic tables, shelter house and handicap accessible restrooms and is on the lakefront. Central Ave. lot is a bit of a walk from the beach. Mount Baldy access is closed entirely with no plans to re-open due to dangerous conditions. A word of caution about parking in Beverly Shores; parking rules are strictly enforced. The Lake View lot has a section that requires a permit from the town.
Indiana Dunes State Park (link) is open weekends only through Labor Day. Sat. Aug. 23 is the annual sand sculpture competition.
Washington Park Beach, Michigan City (link) is open weekends only through Labor Day. Parking fee: $7.00.
All lake shore access points have a travel time of between 2 and 2.5 hours.
