Tippecanoe County late summer swim venues, part 1

With the schools back in session, most of the local aquatic centers are closed for the season. There are still some options for weekend fun in the sun.

Lafayette: Tropicanoe Cove (link) will be open Sat. Aug. 23, Sun. Aug. 24, Sat. Aug. 30, Sun. Aug. 31, and Mon. Sept. 1. This is; of course, weather permitting, so if in doubt, call ahead. The hours for Saturdays and Monday are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays, noon to 6 p.m. Rates: 2 and under free, under 48” tall $6.00, over 48” $7.00. There is a separate rate for chaperones just watching little ones: $2.00. Contact phone: (765) 807-1531.

Battle Ground: Prophetstown State Park Aquatic Center (link) will be open depending on life guard availability. The hours of operation are: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sat. Aug. 23, Sun. Aug. 24, Sat. Aug. 30, Sun. 31 and Sept. 1. The park gate fee applies in addition to an Aquatic Center fee. Fees: per in-state car, $6.00. Per out of state car, $8.00. Aquatic Center $3.00 per person 4 and older, toddlers are free. If you have a group going, consider a 25 session use pass for $50.00. The per session use pass covers each paying person for one session, i.e., if you have 5 people the pass covers 5 people for that session leaving 20 more uses. Out and about:

Peru: Mississinewa Reservoir Beach (link) is open dawn to dusk through Labor Day. This beach has no lifeguards so it is swim at your own risk. Travel time is about an hour and a quarter. Gate fee of $5 per in-state car, $7 per out-of-state car applies. Beach is located in Miami S.R.A.

Wabash: Salamonie Reservoir Beach (link) is open dawn to dusk through Labor Day. This beach has no lifeguards and is swim at your own risk. Travel time is about an hour and a half. Beach is located in Lost Bridge West S.R.A. Gate fee of $5.00 per in-state car, $7.00 per out-of-state car.
