Nov 13: Wednesdays in the Wild, 1-3 p.m., Lilly Nature Center. An Overview of NICHES Properties. Gus Nyberg, executive director of NICHES will take folks on a visual tour of over 2700 acres of properties being restored to pre-agricultural condition. Several counties and now the Wildcat Valley, have NICHES properties. NICHES is a local land trust dedicated to preservation and/or restoration of natural areas. During November several of the properties are participating in deer hunts to reduce damage to the areas. Check the website for the list (link).
Nov. 14: INPAWS (link) workday for the RIP Squad, 3-5 p.m., Ross Hills. Meet at the parking lot near the David Ross Home. Work gloves and loppers, dress for the weather and poison ivy. Last RIP Squad workday until spring.
Nov. 14: Sycamore Audubon Society (link) meeting, 7:15 p.m., Lilly Nature Center. Kestrels and You: The American Kestrel Partnership”. Jeff Canada will be on hand for this presentation about the smallest American falcon. A live kestrel will also make an appearance.
Nov. 16: Meet at Celery Bog (gravel lot) at 6:30 a.m. for a run to the Lakeshore to watch for fall migratory birds. Plan for all-day bird watching along the shore and a stop at Jasper-Pulaski FWA (link) on the way back to check out the Sandhill cranes.
