NICHES Land Trust has announced that they have acquired Clegg Botanical Gardens. Negotiations have been going on for a long time. Jim Peterson, long time manager of the property is retiring and the continuity of the property was at stake. The NICHES office has been moved from downtown to Cleggs.

March 13: Update on Local Youth in Nature. Sycamore Audubon Society program, 7:15 p.m., Lilly Nature Center. SAS (link) sponsors a Junior Nature Club for 4th – 6th grades. Find out how things are going and what’s coming up.

Coming up: March 17-21, Alternate to spring break. NICHES (link) will be doing work at the Carroll County property, Frog’s Glory. Check in with Bob Easter at NICHES, rleaster@nicheslandtrust.org, if you are interested in helping out. Work planned is a prescribed burn and removal of invasives. Meals provided and camping encouraged.

Mushroom hunters, take heart. Soon the fungi will be popping up. For those just beginning, or wanting to network with, check in with Nick Harby. Ph: 317-370-2895, or e-mail nickharby@yahoo.Com. Nick will be doing both edibles and fungi walks. You can also get tips from the Hoosier Mushroom Society (link). Remember that it is legal to harvest fungi from Prophetstown and the county parks, stay close to the trails. Celery Bog and Happy Hollow are owned by West Lafayette and harvesting is NOT allowed.

Hikers advisory lowland flooding may restrict access to the Hoosier Heritage Trail on the county portions. It may also affect trails 3 & 4 at Prophetstown SP
