Tippecanoe County area outdoor events, Feb. 23-24 (Photos)

Feb. 23: Story Time at Turkey Run State Park. 10:45 a.m., Nature Center. If you are planning on a road trip to Parke County, check out Story Time. This family friendly program will feature a story about a fish. Pre-school through junior high students can then make a fish kite to keep. Program length is about 45 minutes (link).

Planetarium Star Show, 2 p.m., Turkey Run State Park Nature Center. This program is 40 minutes closed in the Planetarium learning about the winter constellations. Doors close promptly at 2 and there is no admittance after 2.

Feb. 24: Turkey Run State Park, 10:45 a.m., Nature Center, Road Raptors. Ever wonder what kind of hawk is perched on the fences and phone poles? Check out this program for some tips on raptor ID’s.

Bird watch update: Bald eagles are very active right now. As many as 20 have been seen in the downtown/ levee area. Sandhill cranes are starting to come through. They fly in a double vee formation, as opposed to the vee formation of Canadian geese. Watch for the double vee and listen to hear their distinctive sound (link).
