Sept. 7-8: Conner Prairie, regular hours (link). New for this year, the 1863 Civil War Experience. For September, the Apple store is open. The store features apple goodies to raise money for the facility. Balloon rides commemorating the historic “air mail” run from Lafayette in 1859, are available for an additional fee. Sept. 7: Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum Open House (link). North Judson, this museum has been growing and the open house will feature several different train ride options. Family friendly, event free, fee charged for the museum and rides. Travel time about 1.5 hours from I65 and Ind. 43
Sept. 7-8: Whistle Stop Restaurant / Monon Connection Museum, regular hours. On the way to (or from) Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum the Monon Connection Museum will be open regular hours (link). Family friendly, outdoor portion free, indoor museum charges a fee. Travel time about an hour from I65 and Ind. 43.
Sept. 7-8: Linden Depot Museum, regular hours (link). Family friendly, fee charged. Across from the Lindy Freeze. Travel time about 20 mins. from Veteran Parkway and U.S. 231 S.
Sept. 7: Elwood Haynes Museum, Kokomo, 1-4 p.m. (link). Family friendly, ADA accessible, freewill donation. Haynes, inventor of the first American car, among other things, lived in Kokomo. His home is now a museum and contains some of the Haynes automobiles as well as other industrial items. The Haynes Electric was the dominant electric car in the early 1900's.
Sept. 7-8: Kokomo Automotive Museum, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. (link) Over 100 cars, many made in Kokomo, are featured in this museum. Family friendly, fee charged.
