Tip from dream led police to use cadaver dogs to search for Hailey Dunn

Abilene, Tex. - On Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, cadaver dogs were used to search for missing Texas teen Hailey Dunn after authorities received a tip based on a dream.

Although police told KTXS the search was prompted by a tip involving dreams, they claim no matter what the source, all tips are being investigated.

The search took place near the airport in Colorado City on private property.

Colorado City Police Chief Roy Owens told KTXS, “These are seasoned dogs that were used in this case from the beginning.”

He noted the tip came from an individual who specializes in finding bodies on large parcels of land.

“We checked his track record on a couple of different things... and he's been successful in finding those,” he said.

Hailey, 13, was last seen on December 27, 2010. According to police, Shawn Adkins -- her mother’s former live-in boyfriend -- claims the girl told him she was walking a short distance to her father’s home and then over to a friend’s to spend the night. She never arrived at either location. Her mother, Billie Dunn, reported her missing on December 28.

Hailey is described as having brown hair with hazel eyes, and being about 5-foot-tall and 120 pounds. She was last seen wearing navy blue sweatpants, a light-colored short-sleeved T-shirt, pink and white tennis shoes or flip flops and red hoop earrings.

Anyone with information regarding Hailey’s case is urged to call the Colorado City Police Department at 325-728-5294.
