A tiny pup, weighing in at just over two pounds, was somehow burned over much of his body by a caustic substance.
The wounds left large pieces of his fragile skin raw, blistered and peeling away.
The puppy, dubbed "Churro," by his rescuers, was sitting at an animal control facility in Houston, Texas, for several days without the specialized care that he so desperately needed. Unfortunately, due to the severity of his injuries, most rescue organizations were not able to take him in, knowing that to do so would entail high veterinary expenses.
Word of little Churro's plight reached Janice Wolf, of Rocky Ridge Refuge, and though she has taken on many difficult, expensive cases recently, she made the decision that this nine-week-old puppy deserved a chance.
With the help of her rescue partner, Carissa Harris, all of the necessary paperwork was put together to ensure that little Churro could be released from the animal control and get to a veterinarian.
Today, Churro is at a veterinarian in Houston and on Friday, he will be seen at a veterinarian in Dallas for continued care.
Little Churro has had a very rough start in life and has suffered at least 4 days with these injuries and likely longer before he was found. I am SO full , but no other group had offered to take him and I just couldn't say no to him....
Follow Churro's journey as he recuperates here.
