Joseph A.Valentino, of Tinton Falls, N.J. was fined $1,000 and has been banned from owning animals for five years after being convicted of animal cruelty on Tuesday for duct taping a dog's mouth and using a power drill to trim the dog's nails.
According to the Asbury Park Press, chief humane officer, Victor "Buddy" Amato of the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals stated:
With that kind of dog, if you duct tape its mouth like that, you could cut off its air supply by restricting its nasal passage.
Valentino, 41, was charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty and abuse in April after he duct taped a one-year-old bull mastiff's snout in front of his owners and trimmed the dog's nails with a Dremel power tool. The dog was so scared of the drill he defecated on himself.
The dog, named Stitches was in such a panic his tongue turned blue from choking.
The best punishment for people like this is to keep them away from animals forever, but it's making sure animal abusers like this never get another chance to hurt dogs", stated Kathleen Hindeman, Boca Raton, Fla. "Right now it's a state by state law, but will there ever be national laws to keep people like this away from innocent animals?
