'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' sequel to being shooting in 2014 (Video)

With a gross of only $24 million, the Oscar-nominated 2011 espionage drama, “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” didn’t draw huge audience. The film featured a spectacular musical score and many incredible performances, most notably by Gary Oldman, so it comes as no surprise when the producers of the film told The Playlist today, February 7, 2013, that a sequel is on the way.

The original film was extremely popular with most critics – it was the complicated, intellectual and artistic movie that generally appeals to film lovers. However, I really hated the film. Although the film was well-written, featured superb acting and expertly used a brilliant soundtrack, the viewing experience was tedious to say the least. The story promises a film full of espionage and mystery – it’s billed as an intelligent spy thriller. However, the only portion of the film that’s thrilling is the conclusion of the film, which is crammed into about 20 minutes at the end of the movie. The rest of the film is basically an extremely complicated, bland, and extremely boring drama that makes for a truly painful viewing experience. By the time the exciting conclusion roles around you have no idea what’s going on and you’re really just hoping the film would just end already.

Unfortunately, the writer of the book the film is based on and the film’s screenplay, John Le Carre has once again reeled in the film’s original producers who are intrigued by the concept of creating another drawn out and tremendously boring yet intelligent espionage thriller. Hopefully this time the producers can do a better job editing the film and can create a tighter and more palatable film.

The news of the sequel was first reported by The Playlist who spoke to the “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” executive producers Olivier Courson and Ron Halpern, who stated,

The same ‘Tinker Tailor’ actors whose characters would reappear are well aware of what we’re doing. We’re hopeful for a 2014 shoot.

There aren’t any other concrete details on the upcoming sequel yet, and none of the cast members have been confirmed. However, the confirmation that the producers have a plan for production indicates that the sequel will most likely be made and will begin shooting at some point in 2014.
