Tina Turner, the iconic queen of rock ‘n roll, just broke Meryl Streep’s record for oldest "Vogue" cover model by a large margin. Tina, who’s 73 years-old, strikes a gorgeous pose on the cover of April’s issue of Vogue Germany. Turner breaks then 62 year-old Meryl Streep’s record set for the U.S. edition’s January 2012 issue, according to the Daily News yesterday.
The “What’s Love Got to do With it” singer wore an Armani gown, and sports her trademark “honey blonde” locks and pouty lips in the photo. The Hollywood Reporter makes note that Tina’s trademark legs are absent in the cover shot.
But even without Turner’s signature limbs, the words “Simply The Best” are splashed across the bottom of the photo, an homage to one of the singer’s biggest hits.
Born Anna Mae Bullock in Nashville, Tenn., Turner famously split from abusive husband Ike in 1976, having started her career as part of “The Ike & Tina Turner Review”.
Tina went on to have one of the most successful solo music careers in history. She’s won eight Grammy awards and has sold over 200 million albums and singles throughout the world. She’s also a “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” inductee.
Turner also ventured into the realm of acting with parts in movies such as “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” and the rock opera musical “Tommy”. The “Private Dancer” singer now resides in Switzerland.
Tina moved to Zurich in 1994, loving it so much that she finally became a citizen there in January of this year. She recently told the local Swiss newspaper “Blick” that she’s, “very happy in Switzerland, and I feel at home here. I cannot imagine a better place to live”.
Turner is currently back in the studio recording the her latest album “Beyond 2”.
