Tina Turner has Swiss ambitions; American icon seeks European country's passport (Video)

On Jan. 25, news that Tina Turner is looking to get a Swiss passport means the veteran singer will no longer keep her American version. This report comes from all over the Internet, including from the Los Angeles Times who says that the icon has been living near Zurich for the past eight years.

In fact, Turner, who was born in Tennessee, is already a citizen of Switzerland. The diva passed both the required civics exam and the one-on-one interview to move things along in that desired direction.

However, even when Tina gives up her United States passport to take ownership of her Swiss passport, the mayor of Brownsville, the town nearest her home town of Nutbush in Haywood County, asserts she has never "forgotten her roots," according to a Fox source.

However, the same Tennessee mayor, Mary Jo Matherne, told Fox411 that this Tina Turner turnabout is something to think about. She said,

"I think anytime a person, whether they’re world-renowned or the most meek and mild, makes the decision to change their citizenship we need to step back and think what causes that decision."

And so, as Tina Turner slowly turns her Swiss ambitions into reality, this American treasure will have permanent roots in Europe. However, no doubt to this icon, that's why passenger jets were invented.
