Tina Turner is giving up her U.S. citizenship to become a Swiss citizen after calling Zurich her home for more than 15 years, according to Perez Hilton on Friday Jan. 25, 2013. Turner first moved to Kuesnacht, which is a suburb of Zurich, to be with her long-time partner Erwin Bach, according to Pop Blend. Bach is a German music manager and the couple are said to be happy with the home they've made in Switzerland together.
Local government officials in Switzerland have already given their approval for Turner to become a citizen of that country. The “What’s Love Got to Do With It” singer moved Switzerland in 1995 and the couple live in a lake house called Chateau Algonquin.
The Tennessee raised singer hit the music scene back in the 60s with her then husband Ike Turner. Ike and Tina Turner were a popular music duo. Tina later divorced Ike after numerous marital problems and she went on to have a very successful solo career.
While Tina has said very little about her private live since moving into her Swiss lake house, she has said she’s been “very happy” during her years there. Her decision to become a Swiss citizen seems to add evidence to her happiness while living in that country.
Tina still has some steps to go through for her Swiss citizenship to become official, but no roadblocks are expected. Tina should have an easy transition as she embarks on her new endeavor of becoming a new citizen of the country she already calls home.
