As of March 6, 2013, Kevin Patra of NFL.com has published that the Atlanta Falcons are "reportedly interested in Darrelle Revis."
Yes, this isn't news to most Falcons fans. There's obviously been speculation about Revis coming to Atlanta for quite some time now. However, as we all know, NFL.com is the big fish, the big kahuna - the bridge for every football fan between rumor and possibility.
With that, as of Wednesday afternoon the floodgates will have opened on Revis rumors. Question is, how did we get there?
January 27, 2013: Revis is seen wearing an Atlanta Falcons hat. Numerous blogs and fans alike began to wonder if it actually meant anything.
February 27, 2013: Oddly enough, exactly one month later, Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports - in his report of the 49ers potential pursuit of the cornerback - hinted that the Falcons could be a potential landing spot.
"Don’t be surprised if Atlanta, which came tantalizingly close to beating the 49ers in the NFC championship game this year, makes a run at Revis."
March 6, 2013: NFL.com reports that a source told Manish Mehta of New York Daily news Revis would soon be traded. NFL.com goes on to list the Falcons as a potential trade partner.
"He's gone," the source said. "This is happening. They're moving him. They can't keep him. They're rebuilding. They're starting fresh."
While there have been countless other websites that have mention the Atlanta as a possible suitor in passing, such as in the aforementioned Jason Cole article, the timeline really is that short and lacks any real substance.
Even so, it turns out there still may be some credence to the rumor, seeing as corner Brent Grimes has yet to be signed and Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff is capable of pulling off trades like a seventh round pick for Asante Samuel.
However, as an Atlanta fan, it's hard not to wonder if the Falcons have bigger needs.
