Congress' choice early Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, to jeopardize Americans and the economy is in direct violation of the 14th Amendment, intended to protect the people (not corporations) from enforcing any actions or laws that diminish their privileges, immunities, or deprive any persons of life, liberty, or property without legal penalty. Yet today, while many of American workers will not get paid, even if they have to show up for work to keep the country running. However, the 435 House members and 100 Senate members pay will not be affected.
Today America's most vulnerable citizens will have once again been robbed by the people they employed to work for them! Immediately and indefinitely 800,000 American workers are furloughed without pay. 2.5 million seniors will not have access to vital and healthy meals. If the shutdown should be extended, Veteran's will be cutoff from receiving compensation, pension, and educational benefits. Mothers and their children will be cutoff from vital nutritional assistance such as food stamps and Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) program. Learn more at thewhitehouse.gov.
Truth is, Congress has authorized everything that has been happening and is now standing on a traitorous mountain throwing stones at the President, who in truth has no Constitutional authority to do anything accept ask Congress for things. Further, Congress is influenced by only a minute percent of self serving Americans, bankers and large corporations whom possess the majority of wealth in the country.
It sounds like the same story of bullying by the powerful and the privileged, but with a twist this time. According to a CNN/ORC international survey conducted last Monday, 46% of Americans blame Congress for this issue while only 36% point the blame at President Obama, this confirms the majority of America knows who is responsible for this mess. As a result, citizens are becoming as ruthless as Congress, in that they understand this loss is a gain in understanding of the job they need to do, fire Congress, the entire lot of them. Many of these "representatives" have been in office anywhere from 20-50 years and seemingly have no intention of serving the needs of the people in compliance with the Oath of Office they swore by:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.
What makes this decision more apathetic and morose is, the standoff won't kill the "Affordable Healthcare Act," also known as "Obama Care," because the money is funded by new and future taxes. Congress is simply refusing to do their job for the people by exerting their power to protect American life lines from healthcare to job security.
President Obama had this to say early Tuesday, October 1, 2013:
"Those of you in uniform will remain on your normal duty status," the president said. "Congress has passed, and I am signing into law, legislation to make sure you get your paychecks on time. And we'll continue working to address any impact this shutdown has on you and your families."
"To all our DOD civilians—I know the days ahead could mean more uncertainty, including possible furloughs," the president added. "And I know this comes on top of the furloughs that many of you already endured this summer. You and your families deserve better than the dysfunction we're seeing in Congress. ... That's why I'll keep working to get Congress to reopen our government and get you back to work as soon as possible."
Congress is the only institution that can protect the American people from exploitation and this disagreement is designed as a con game played at the expense of the majority of Americans.
