Time to change how the Chairman of the BCRCC is selected

As some of you know, I am running for Chairman of the Baltimore County Republican Central Committee.  At the Republican Women of Baltimore County meeting last week, Ellen Sauerbrey asked my position on how the Chairman of the Central Committee is selected.

The point of the question is that Baltimore County is the only jurisdiction in the entire country where the selection of its chairperson is decided by the voters in a primary election.

If I am elected Chair, I will ask the Baltimore County Republican delegation to submit a bill in the General Assembly to allow the elected members of the Central Committee to choose its Chairperson after the 2014 Gubernatorial election.

My stand on this issue goes farther than just allowing the members to choose its leader because current bylaws do not allow the Central Committee to remove the Chairman. Article 1, Section 1, H, 3 reads except as may be otherwise provided by Maryland Law, the Chairman cannot be removed from office by the members of the Central Committee.

When the bill that I am calling for is enacted, I will push for a change in the bylaws that allows for the removal of the Chairman of the Central Committee by a 2/3 vote of the membership.  Every other organization can change its’ leader. If the Constitution allows for the removal of the President of the United States, the members of the BCRCC should be able to remove their Chairman. This is a democracy, not a fiefdom.
