Time to celebrate VONS original baking

Christmas bakery bargains feed the lines of shoppers at VONS during December. A friendly double layer cake comes at 9.99 dollars. Until the graced day.

Through the 25th, the community store at 8310 Mira Mesa Boulevard does something old fashioned. Lower the price range on favorite holiday buys. Store prices on chuck rib roast and sliced ham will not surprise anyone. Only good surprises are worth sharing.

Layers of baked goods give shoppers a reason to spend a little time in the back corner, baking pieces, in just the right counts, get found long wide eyed steps from the entryway red and white poinsettias fill a row, and little green potted Christmas trees grow.

A full bakery collection stands on the floor originally thick, not fancy. Pies 11 inch wide, fresh apple and dutch apple, sit by the walk, packed next to the bing cherry. Muffins greet the shoppers walking in ready for a little merry taste, Red Velvet or the usual. The smell of the Vons bakers work fills the air. Lemon loaf can make you stray.

This is not a time to spare the oven's touch. A fresh fruit topped mousse crowded near the back is a work of holiday love.

Holiday items line the shelves all over the store. Out of the fields come the California sweet oranges, red and green grapes, and Del Monte pineapples. Bargain sugar takes a place on a stocked aisle shelf.

VONS keeps a plain buy near the Mira Mesa locals on the nearby blocks. The ovens never stay unattended. Too many Christmas Trees to frost on the eight inch cakes that stack up.
