Jim Daly, president and CEO of Focus on the Family, said the commercial comes at a time when “families need to be inspired.”
I don't see how anyone can be offended by this commercial which is obviously pro-family, but refrains from any mention of abortion.

I'd like to hear from some pro-choice advocates. Were you offended? If so, why?

Wow! What a great message! We love Tim Tebow and the positive example he sets for young people in a fallen world. Thank you Focus On The Family for getting this on the air. We would have loved to see more.
Why would a pro-choice person be offended? Tim Tebow's mom made her own choice. Isn't that what pro-choice is all about? Or does pro-choice really mean pro-abortion?
I'm a pro choicer and I don't take any offense to this commercial at all. Actually to me it's more a positive message about pro choice. I'm glad she had that right and I'm glad it worked out for her and many others. Hopefully they didnt spend all that money to try to send the message that the next abortion you have could be a sports superstar therefore you should never have an abortion. They missed the mark here. Basically this commercial was a big waste of FoF money. It won't change anyones mind. If anything it has started a debate that we've had in this country many times over. A woman's right to choose. We've settled it already but thanks for spending your hard earned bucks!
Thought it funny that so much of the controversy was in regard to CBS not granting airtime to the "opposing view". How can you be opposed to the choice of one individual? I agree with the above comment that said that's what pro-choice is all about. FoF can likewise choose to spend their money on a 30-second ad that most people will not remember by tomorrow, or they could have given it to pregnancy centers, single women facing a crisis pregnancy, families wishing to adopt a child to spare it from being aborted, or any number of farther-reaching ministries. Great waste of money, Daly...will be reconsidering where I'm giving this year since I wish to see the monies used in the ministry rather than feeding into pop culture.
Great commercial, way to go Focus. It is all about life and preserving life at any cost. The ad was wonderful, and if people didn't get it, it is because they aren't followers of Jesus Christ. We must pray for them all. Thank you again for having the fortitude and courage to go against the secular world. God bless you.
If these secular pro-choice people would read about Focus and where the money came from for the ad, and the real cost of the ad, it would c ertainly be a more enjoyable read. All of you are so off base, I am embarrassed for your posts.
I didn't understand the story. Was he going to be aborted and his mom chose not to? I heard lots of hype but the commercial seemed so benign. I didn't really get the point. What am I missing?
so Fran....how much money did you give to Focus on the Family last year?? I gave about $2,100 in 2009 and feel like they got their money's worth from the commercial. I may not agree with everything they do but I will continue to support them because I believe in what they are doing overall...trying to protect life. I thought the actual spot was a bit lame but the buzz generated from it got everyone talking about the issue which is a great thing. It also showed the "pro-choice" side as not really being about choice at all.
If I hadn't heard about this commercial ahead of time, I'd have no idea it was even about the abortion debate. She's a mom who had a rough pregnancy, and she's grateful for her healthy son. Sweet touchy feely moment.
I was happy to see that CBS was open to takingon a commercial that was not about beer or sex. Maybe there is hope after all.
I was encourgaed that CBs was open to and allowed a commercial that was not about beer, sex, etc. Maybe there is hope after all!
Great air-time for Focus on the Family! I have been helped so much by James Dobson's advice over the last 20 years, raising my four sons. With so much negative out there...what a breath of "fresh air".
Tim Teboe's mom made the decision to trust God in having him. Being the Christian family they are, she would'nt have even considered an abortion anyway! Why should there be a choice to kill a baby in the first place? Our Judicial system missed the boat long ago with Roe vs. Wade. God have mercy on us as a morally fallen nation.
Regardless of your position on legalized abortion, I simply can't understand why Life wouldn't be the first "choice". To stand up against Life just doesn't seem right. Actively opposing a message of life is de facto advocating for death - I just don't understand this position. I applaud the Tebow's for their celebration of Life and for making this positive commercial. Life is sacred and the lack of commpassion for the unborn child is troubling to me. Thank you "Focus On The Family" for getting this commercial on the air. We have many opportunities to celebrate Life everyday (e.g., cancer survivors, etc.) and should welcome these celebrations! Life is precious!
So if this "Pro Choice" thing were really about a women's right to choose, is it only choice is the women decides to abort her child that they are comfortable with. That does not seem like much of a choice to me. I am glad that CBS did not pull the commercial. Why is it that anytime the liberal media talks about the Christian view point that it is villianize and Christian people are considered to be full of hate. I think that is the epitome of prejudice. So thank you Focus on the Family, and thank you CBS for airing this commercial.
Just wanted to thank all the pro abortionist who caused all the hype. I tbowed the Superbowl, but the first thing I looked for was Tebow's ad when I got home. I couldn't wait to see what NOW was so upset about. The score was secondary.
I wish the ad had been longer, but that said..on to Focus on the Family to see ....the rest of the story.... The money that was saved by the PA's outcry was worth millions...thanks again.
The commercial doesn't offend me. Focus on the family offends me. In this nation of religiious freedom and separation of church and state(suppossedly), a religious organization should not try to make everyone else adhere to its views. And please don't try to tell me they don't. Abortion, marriage, homosexuality, and other private matters are not necessarily religious. For me, religion has no place here. I don't tell them what to believe; don't tell me what I should believe.
I enjoyed the ad and from my understanding, the ad was not from Focus regular donation, but special contributors specifically for the super bowl airtime. It seemed to be pro-family to me. And,I was adopted in 1964, before abortion was an option. I am not a sports hero, but I am a mom of four great kids. I am thankful for my life and the life of my kids, 5 of us wouldn't be here if there was one abortion.
Great choice Mrs. Tebow. Focus calls itself a pro-life group. The NPR news called them anti-abortion. I think the commercial shows that they support life both in the womb and after.
I am support pro choice and do not take offense to this commercial. Shawna is correct. Being pro choice means also supporting those to who choice life. I just think people took offense before they even saw the commercial with all the hype. Other then that the only thing that is bothersome is that CBS banned the gay dating site commercial and the go daddy - Lola commercial. I felt those shouldn't have been baned.
This was just about celebrating family. It was not meant to sway people's minds about their beliefs. I know I have mine and you have yours and that's what is great about this country. We are allowed to have that. I applaud the Tebow family in standing up for what they believe in and I'm glad that I can do the same. I'm not a fan of FOF at all, but I have looked into this enough to know that they did not use their regular donations to run this ad. I hope that Tebow is able to share his story and that it may help someone else know that it is ok to celebrate families, if we learn that soon enough, we may get some enjoyment out of life!
ABOUT TIME! We are always bomobarded on commercials with negative ads. We need alot more positive ads and good role models.Tim T. and Focus on the Family keep up the good job!!Thank you.
I'm pro-choice and I thought the ad rocked! It was about a woman's right to choose. The choice she makes is absolutely irrelevant to the debate of choice. As long as women have the right to make that choice, the choice itself is NO ONE else's business. Go Pam! You did far more for the pro-choice movement than you may have intended.
If this commercial doesn't represent the ultimate "preaching to the choir", I don't know what does. I happen to think that abortion is murder and I still find this commercial cloying and almost completely without merit. It is propaganda of the worst kind. When you don't have the guts to stand behind your beliefs this is the kind of empty headed saccharin that results. This could set the Pro Life movement back to the stone age. I say "speak up or shut up". This IS offensive claptrap!!
What is the choice? To let your son or daughter live or let your son or daughter die! That is what pro-choice means to me! I am PRO-LIFE! Millions of babies have died because of Roe V Wade. Loved the commercial and love Focus On The Family. I have been blessed by Dr. Dobson's great wisdom since my teens. Over 30 years. A quote by Albert Schweitzer many years ago said "If a man loses reverence for any part of life he will lose his reverence for all life". So True. May God Forgive America for not fighting harder for the lives of the almost born...for not being a louder voice for those who have no voice at all!
I am also pro-choice and I thought the ad celebrated one woman's choice. I thought that was very positive and not at all offensive. It shows that when we give women the choice they will make the choice that is best for them. I have so much confidence in my fellow women to make the right choices for themselves and their families. I just wish others didn't think all women are selfish and stupid and incapable of making their own choices without government regulation.
Wish they would have been more direct and shown a little baby, heart beating, little legs kicking before an abortion. For the pro abortionists to not like this ad shows that many don't support choice unless it a choice to take the life of an unborn baby
Interestingly enough, not everyone who thinks that government should butt-out of women's reproductive rights are secular. I'm a Christian and, while I think in most cases, abortion is wrong, I don't think the government should be involved. I guess I'm a libertarian, but I don't want any more government intrusion. What's happening out there in the name of helping the unborn scares me. Women forced on bedrest against their will. What's next? It truly frightens me.
I've never met anyone who supports choice who thinks we should have more abortions. I'm not saying they don't exist, but they are but a handful. Most people who support choice, also support those with not only time, but money, when the babies are actually born. I've met far too many anti-choice who think that fewer taxpayer dollars should go to supporting the offspring of the poor. After all, it just encourages them to breed as some elected officials would have you believe. If you want to not be a hypocrite, make sure you lobby just as hard to make sure every baby born gets the proper nutrition and education to be all that they can be. Even if YOU have to pay more taxes.
I'm not offended, but I'm certainly disgusted by the past operations and slithering demonizing done by FOTF. The blood of "uncured," oppressed, and psychologically damaged young gay suicide cases are on Dobson's hands.
After listening to the verbal hand-wringing of those who think abortion is a reasonable option, I had to laugh after seeing the Tebow spot. This is what you thought was so inappropriate, so controversial, so heavy-handed. Your complaining only helped draw attention to a story of courage and commitment. In our secularized society of today, what was considered wholesome and healthy (family, faith, integrity) is now pornographic and the pornographic is lifted up as noble. As Christians, we need to pray for our our world and live lives that would honor our Lord. I thank God for the example of the Tebow family and for the leadership of Focus on the Family.

This was about the fact that the network reversed a policy that they themselves sighted in 2004 when they refused to air ads from MoveOn and PETA. At the time CBS said they do "not sell time for the advocacy of viewpoints on controversial issues of public importance...that has (sic) a significant impact on society or its institutions, and is the subject of vigorous debate with substantial elements of the community in opposition to one another."
Further they said that this policy, "is decades old. It is designed to prevent those with means to produce and purchase network advertising from having undue influence on controversial issues of public importance."
According to CBS' policies, then ad should not have run. It's that simple.
I find it interesting that this entire debate is over "choice." While the choice debated is over abortion, people seem to overlook the other choices involved here. CBS had the choice of whether or not to run the ad. Viewers had the choice of whether or not to watch it - they were warned far in advance. And as far as I know, FOTF has never forced anyone to do anything.
Those arguing against CBS' choice to run the ad should be thankful that the network can decide for itself whether to run the ad or not. If they don't want the government dictating their choice over abortion, why do they argue against a network choosing to run an ad simply because they don't agree with it? The words "forest" and "trees" come to mind.
This is clearly a first amendment issue, and this has absolutely nothing to do with the separation of church and state, as the networks have yet to admit that the government runs them. The government should have no role in this.
This Ad was about abortion? I thought it was some retard tackling his mother. With all the emphasis on fetuses and children, I think Moms deserve better respect. They are the one's who have to max out their credit to raise these children.
It cracks me up that groups like the National Organization for Women (NOW) were making such a stink about the Tebow commercial! I'm like, GET A LIFE people! Pun intended. LOL There was nothing controversial about the commercial. The groups trying to stop the commercial have some serious egg on their face in my opinion. Based on their reaction, NOW and similar groups are NOT pro-choice...they are pro-abortion. Pam Tebow only exercised her freedom of CHOICE and had her baby against the advice of doctors. Why the elitism and condescension from NOW and the other pro-abortion groups towards a woman that chose life for her baby? What cracked me up even more is the fact that NOW President Terry O'Neill, instead of admitting she was wrong about the commercial, railed against the "glorification of domestic violence towards women" that the commercial was promoting (in ONeills opinion) with the tackle of the mom by her son. LOL Did she see the Snicker's commercial where Betty White
People! He tackled his mother. I love my mother. Don't you think this AD was anti-mother?
I mean, the christian who walked into the church and murdered Dr. Tiller, hated that he was terminating ectopic pregnancies to save the lives of the mothers. What with all the mother hating? Then they tackled Betty White and Abe Vigoda.
Not cool. Respect your elders!
as I said in my column...
By their own actions, they prove not a party of choice, but one of fear and hate, and rage war on life. Without their fear, the ad would have played with little more than a comment of..Aaaw cute ad, now back to the game. But now because of how they've handled it, the whole world knows the story, lasting much longer than the 30 seconds that was paid for.
