Tim Tebow cancels: Church appearance canceled by Tebow amid controversy

Tim Tebow cancels church speech? That's right; Tebow has decided to cancel a First Baptist Church appearance that was set to take place in April. According to a report on Thursday (Feb. 21), Tebow took to Twitter to reveal that he was having a change of heart.

Tebow stated that, "new information has been brought to my attention. I will continue to use the platform God has blessed me with to bring Faith, Hope, and Love to all those needing a brighter day."

It isn't all that surprising that Tebow is backing out of this speaking appearance, especially with all the bad press that he has been receiving. There were a lot of stories floating around about the pastor of the church being anti-gay and anti-Semitic.

The pastor of the church (Rev. Robert Jeffress) confirmed that Tebow had canceled, revealing that Tebow said he "he needed to avoid controversy right now for personal and professional reasons."

With his career in the NFL in doubt right now, the New York Jets quarterback likely didn't want to keep seeing his name mentioned in negative press. It certainly had to be distracting during an uneventful NFL offseason.

It's indeed interesting that it is news when Tim Tebow cancels a church appearance, which really shows just how polarizing and popular he has become.
