Tim Smith, the illegal, backwoods moonshiner who went legal, is expanding his territory to Salisbury, North Carolina. According to the Salisbury Post, on December 27, 2013 Tim was in Salisbury signing autographs and having his picture taken with loyal fans at the Alcoholic Beverage Control Store. This is the first place in North Carolina to sell Climax Moonshine.
You can buy Tim Smith's Climax Moonshine in Georgia, Maryland, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia. Tim is hoping that will soon change. He wants to sell his moonshine all over the nation.
Although Tim only has the original flavor of moonshine available in North Carolina, he does have two other flavors, Grape Lightening and Peach Lightening for sale in the other states. He plans to have the other flavors in the North Carolina stores by February. Tim sells his moonshine for $34.95 a bottle.
Tim's moonshine is a hit amongst customers and demand is exceeding supply. Moonshine manufacturing isn't something that can be rushed. It takes time to make a good batch. Salisbury has been waiting for its first shipment of shine for seven months. Some of that wait is due to a fire at the Limestone Branch Distillery where Tim makes his Climax Moonshine. The fire happened on November 22, 2013 when someone broke into the distillery and intentionally started the fire. The fire destroyed 53,000 gallons of moonshine. The incident is still under investigation.
“Moonshiners” airs on the Discovery Channel, Tuesday at 8 p.m. Central.
