Tim Robbins added to Green Lantern cast

Tim Robbins (The Shawshank Redemption, City of Ember) will be joining the cast of the Green Lantern. Robbins will be playing as Senator Hammond, father of the film's villain, Dr. Hector Hammond. Filming is due to start in New Orleans this March and is set to be released on June 17, 2011. Martin Campbell (GoldenEye, Casino Royale) will be directing the DC comic book-based movie. Ryan Reynolds will be starring in the lead role as Hal Jordan, The Green Lantern – of sector 2814. Reynolds is a veteran of comic book-based movies, having starred in Blade: Trinity as Hannibal King and X-Men Origins: Wolverine as Wade Wilson, better known as Deadpool. Speaking of Deadpool, Reynolds will also be reprising his role as Wade Wilson in Marvel's upcoming Deadpool movie. This is the first time an actor will be in the lead role of a Marvel and DC movie at the same time.

The Green Lantern made his first appearance back in July 1940 in All American Comics #16 with Alan Scott being the first. Although there are many Green Lanterns from Earth, Kyle Rayner, John Stewart, and Guy Gardner, Hal Jordan, a test pilot for the United States Air Force, is the favorite Green Lantern to many comic book readers.
