Tim McGraw found himself in an awkward position while on stage this month when a fan slapped his knee and then reached for his groin during a performance of "Truck Yeah." He in turn slapped the woman across the face and that slap was heard around the nation, thanks to social media.
McGraw broke his silence on the incident when he addressed the slap while doing an interview, according to the Christian Post on July 23. He really couldn't call this a swat, as the entire incident was caught on video and played over and over again online.
According to People Magazine McGraw was seen on the video slapping the woman across the face and then standing there with his hands on his hips as security escorted her away from the stage. He calls the incident "unfortunate" and explains it was something he did instinctual and it was done in a matter of a split second. McGraw also said:
"It is one of those things that happen, nobody feels good about it, but there's nothing that could be done about it," he said. "You are in that position, you are out there, you are vulnerable, things happen and sometimes you react. There's nothing to be said about it."
Many of his fans defended his actions saying that the woman had no right to try and grab the singer in his private area. Others said it is a form of sexual assault and that it doesn't matter if he was on stage or in a quiet room somewhere. You don't grab someone's groin and think it is an appropriate thing to do!
Still some of the fans saw this as going overboard, slapping a woman in her face. One of the many tweets that condemned his actions asked McGraw if he would slap his famous wife like that. McGraw is married to Faith Hill, who is also famous in her own right on the Country Music scene.
