You can likely still expect Tim McGraw to continue to bring us the occasional classic country “drinking tune,” but he isn’t actually living those songs anymore.
In an article dated Wednesday, Jan. 30, PEOPLE revealed that the country superstar has a new album, a new tour, a new outlook, and a rocking body to boot. As part of the equation, he dropped drinking completely.
"I drank a lot from my point of view and I needed to stop," McGraw, 45, tells PEOPLE in its new issue, out this Friday. "I felt quitting was something I needed to do. I didn't feel I had any moral high ground with my kids in the long run."
The father of three is happy with the decision that he reportedly made five years ago. Instead of his usual whiskey habits, he began weight-training and took on an intense workout regimen. His hard work has paid off as he certainly has the abs to show for it.
"Working out is a great way to go out on stage," McGraw said.
The country heartthrob who recently parted ways with Curb Records has a new album entitled "Two Lanes of Freedom" that is due to be released on Feb. 5. He also has a high-energy 30-city tour following this spring.
"When I hit the stage, my adrenaline is going and I'm ready."
McGraw delights in being a family man, and is still going strong with wife Faith after 16 years of marriage. He insists that above all, he changed his life because he wanted to be there for their daughters Gracie, Maggie, and Audrey.
"I'm in a good place right now," says McGraw. "I really feel like this new album is not a culmination of the things I've done, it's a new beginning of the things I am going to do. I want to enjoy my career and having my family. I have a busy life, but it is a fulfilling life."
