Tim McGraw and sobriety: The singer opens up about his drinking (Video)

Tim McGraw and his sobriety have hit the headlines. The 45-year-old country star, who is married to fellow country star Faith Hill, revealed that he had a drinking problem that affected his relationship with his wife and his children. McGraw got sober in 2008. "I wasn’t a beer drinker. I was more a whiskey drinker. And I wouldn’t just have a drink. If I was going to drink, I’d have some drinks. People were worried about me. It was to the point where I felt it was negatively affecting my relationships and getting in the way of things I wanted to accomplish in life. So I quit . . . I am probably less embarrassing to her now."

In the world of celebrities, oftentimes the public is unaware that one of their favorites is struggling with a problem. That information doesn't come out unless a tabloid discovers it or unless the star comes clean. Hill and McGraw seemed to have the picture perfect relationship. Therefore, some may be surprised that Tim was once a heavy drinker or that Faith was ever embarrassed by her husband's behavior.

Now that the singer is sober, he has included diet and exercise into his lifestyle, and it shows. The "Two Lanes of Freedom" singer is fitter than ever these days. "My workout program took the place of alcohol, and it’s really important . . . I was always in pretty good shape but for a while I let it go a little bit. There are aches and pains but I feel pretty young."

Tim will play in Chicago as part of the Two Lanes of Freedom 2013 Tour, at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre, on May 24, 2013.
