The former Army Ranger will take on Rafael Natal in the main event on the "UFC Fight Night 31: UFC Fight for the Troops 3" card on Nov. 6. The event will take place in Ft. Campbell, Ky. and the main card will air live on FOX Sports 1.
UFC officials announced the matchup on Tuesday evening.
Kennedy was originally scheduled to fight former UFC light heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida but Machida was pulled from card and placed in the main event at UFC Fight Night 30.
After finding out that Machida was pulled from his fight, Kennedy quickly went to Twitter to try to find a new opponent and Natal was one of his choices.
“Opportunity knocks @rafaelsapontal,” Kennedy wrote. “You always win but no one knows who you are. When I’m done with you, neither will you (Tough guy voice).”
Kennedy made his UFC debut in July on the main card at UFC 163. The 34-year-old defeated Roger Gracie by decision.
Before coming to the UFC, the former Army Bronze Star Medal winner went 4-2 in Strikeforce. His only losses were to current top 10 ranked middleweights “Jacare” Souza and Luke Rockhold.
Natal has quietly put together a three-fight winning streak and a 5-2-1 record in the UFC. “Sapo” is coming off a decision win over Tor Troeng at UFC Fight Night 28 in September.
Natal was originally scheduled to fight Ed Herman on the under card at UFC 167 next month.
