Tim Burton’s exhibit at the MOMA opens this coming Sunday, Nov. 22. What a joyously dark occasion to celebrate a mind we have followed since Vincent (1982). From his earliest works never before released to the public, to his present work, one can follow an intimate threading of the spider-webbed mind of Burton.

A collection of 700 works from drawings, paintings, and sculptures along with scheduled screenings will give Burtonites the ultimate window into a world we have been viewing from the outside in. Ron Magliozzi, the curator for Burton’s exhibit says, “It may well be that Tim will rival Warhol in international reputation.” The next Andy Warhol? Absolutely.

While some may be skeptical of the very thought that Burton could parallel the great Warhol, one only needs to study his vast amount of works to see that his skill and his form, have placed him on the path to being named one of the “Greats”.

Burton told Britain’s The Independent that he was a bit “disturbed” by the exhibit, “You feel quite vulnerable when you show a movie and this is even stranger.” It may feel strange to have himself on exhibit, but with the buzz surrounding the event there is sure to be a remarkable turnout.

So Burton followers, get thee to the MOMA! This could quite possibly be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to peek inside the man himself, and to immerse yourself in the Tim Burton culture. The Museum of Modern Art will host the exhibit from November 22, 2009 to April 26, 2010. Visit their website for ticket information/pricing: www.moma.org
