Tim Brown, ex-wide receiver of the Oakland Raiders, claims that Bill Callahan sabotaged the Raiders for Super Bowl XXXVII. Callahan was the Raiders coach for that Super Bowl, who had taken over for John Gruden.
Super Bowl XXXVII was known for the infamous match between John Gruden and his former team the Raiders. Gruden had built a superb Raiders team and suddenly left to coach the Tamba Bay Buccaneers.
Gruden took the Buccaneers to the Super Bowl where he smashed his former team, Oakland, 41-28, and, now, Brown claims that it was sabotage.
Sporting News NFL reported on Tuesday that Tim Brown, ex-Raider and candidate for the Hall of Fame, stated on XM Radio that Bill Callahan purposely lost the Super Bowl to Gruden.
Brown stated the Callahan always hated the Raiders, and that he took the coaching job to do Gruden a favor. Brown based his assumption on the fact that Gruden and Callahan are good friends.
The ex-wide receiver stated that the Raiders never paid attention to Callahan. He stated that Callahan was just there as a staff member rather than a head coach.
Brown also reported that Callahan changed the game plan drastically on Friday, two days before Super Bowl XXXVII. The plan went from a heavy running game to an all passing game.
Brown stated that he has no proof of this sabotage, and that he will not be able to prove it. However, he did say that all the Raiders from that year will tell you that their grudge will always be with Callahan.
Sporting News also stated that Bill Callahan, who is currently on the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff, did not comment on Brown’s accusations.
