The LSU Tigers are coming off their first loss of the season in what many are calling an "Instant Classic" against Georgia. This week, they traveled to Starkville to face off with the 2-2, yet dangerous Mississippi State Bulldogs, and a whole stadium of ringing cowbells on Oct. 5, 2013.
Odell Beckham Jr. had nine receptions for 179 yards and two touchdowns as LSU defeated Mississippi State 59-26 The Tigers had over 500 yards of offense and six rushing touchdowns (three by Kenny Hilliard), which came along with 157 yards from running back Jeremy Hill.
In past years, the LSU Tigers have been known for their dominating defense, but they have seen some struggles so far this season. Luckily for Les Miles, Zach Mettenberger and the LSU offense is picking up the slack and in an incredibly big way.
LSU came out and had a beautiful drive to open the game and it ended with a three-yard touchdown run by Kenny Hilliard to put the Tigers up 7-0. Mississippi State responded immediately with a 28-yard rushing touchdown from quarterback Dak Prescott. LSU eventually ended up 21-9 before the Bulldogs stormed back to lead 23-21.
The Tigers were fortunate to get a quick drive at the end of the first half that ended with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Odell Beckham Jr. LSU went into the half up 28-23.
Quarter three saw the Bulldogs put together a good drive, but it stalled and ended with a 22-yard field goal from Devon Bell. LSU responded with a 29-yarder from Colby Delahoussaye to make the score 31-26 after three.
Once the fourth quarter started, it became all LSU Tigers.
10 seconds into it, and Mettenberger completed a 33-yard touchdown pass to Beckham Jr. One interception and less than a minute later, Jeremy Hill scored on a five-yard run. Eight minutes later, Alfred Blue broke tackles and ran 17-yards for another score to put LSU up 52-26.
On Mississippi State's next possession, a fumble gave the ball right back to LSU, and the Tigers proceeded to run out the clock.
