So now the cat’s out of the bag as it were, as Tiger Woods has come out on his Web site—due to a soon to be leak story by US Magazine with Jamiee Grubbs. If you were people around the kitchen table, the local bars or on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook—discussing the ends and out of “what is really going on,” having a clear background on how Enneagram Threes think, will help clear the whole sorted affair right up! Let’s dig, shall we?

Note: All information is speculative at best. The public and media at this point do not know full details to why Tiger Woods hit a tree and anything is social news. This column is only going on with the facts as we know them and the Enneagram system of the Three type. To really understand Tiger Woods, he would have to take the test, or know him on a personal level.

"I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart. I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves. I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect. I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family. Those feelings should be shared by us alone."

Why did Tiger Woods not want to talk to the police?
Simply put, there was something that he didn’t want others to know, that would add a bad light to his image. Image is the number one motivation for Enneagram Three Types not to talk. (Remember Bill Clinton and John Edwards?)

Why did he hit a tree near his house?
Who knows, but we went out to talk to some men in a local bar and one man stated, “He’s a man, it happens,” when discussing the possibility of him having an affair. Another man stated, “His wife hit him with that golf club,” which was the theme of the night for most beer drinkers. (Interviews were taken on Dec. 1, 2009)

Could there be another reason? Could it be attempted suicide?
There is known *evidence that men and women take stress and or ending their life differently. (Japanese Culture being one of them) Women are known to try to do it more than men, but fail. Men move into it with more dramatic way of ending it all. Could Tiger Woods be one of those men? Some of the signs are there. (Mental Health First Aid, Adrienne Williams)

  • Leaving the house abruptly.
  • The family not wanting to discuss the case
  • Tiger Woods not being seen in public
  • Covering up their emotional distress

Suicide is a very taboo topic in America. Family members would like to think their loved one was killed, then the public thinking they tried to end it all (As some think it’s a cowardly way out). In times of stress, and if a person feels they are the very cause of their stress, it could be too much for them to handle. Three’s have a very big issue with Image, and when moving into their stress at Nine, they tend to want to remove themselves from the world and close off.

Let’s look at Threes in times of Stress
In the book “The Wisdom of the Enneagram” by Don Richard Riso and Russ Hudson, they describe the Nine Levels or Healthy, Average and unhealthy stances. In the Unhealthy stance at Level 7-9 a great deal can change within the normal Three.

  • Level 7: Fearing failure and humiliation, they can be exploitative and opportunistic, covetous of the success of others, and willing to do "whatever it takes" to preserve the illusion of their superiority.
  • Level 8: Devious and deceptive so that their mistakes and wrongdoings will not be exposed. Untrustworthy, maliciously betraying or sabotaging people to triumph over them. Delusionally jealous of others
  • Level 9: Become vindictive, attempting to ruin others' happiness. Relentless, obsessive about destroying whatever reminds them of their own shortcomings and failures. Psychopathic, murder. Generally corresponds to the Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

What Woods failed to realized that most likely he had someone who was doing the investigation that might have been a Six (The Doubter) or One (The Purist) whose type demands that truth, fairness and will dig no matter what—going beyond the status of the man.

So where does Tiger Woods fall under the Unhealthy Stance
As you can see at the beginning of Woods possible exposure, he was at Level 7, trying at all cost not be been seen by the media and the world, his shame and failure. He didn’t quit frankly, want to be exposed, because he has a very high image—he tried to stop it, but failed. He also has moved into a little of Level 8 where he’s trying to not talk with the police and claim “personal business.”

No way he's a three. He's a One. Notice the comments about values. Lots of anger underneath his highly controlled (PRIVACY!) persona. A three would be reframing this like crazy.

Craig.... What? a One? three, six, nine. He's a 3w4 wing. classic. He's not anger he's hiding. He feels shame and a bit of mind your old business, I'm a three! Look at the anger triads and the image/need love triads!

Hi Sunny Pepper, sure.... love digging into the celebs of why they do what they do!

also Craig, do you remember John Edwards and Bill Clinton at the beginning? They don't come out yet, they are trying to avoid... when they get caught, then they start to work the angle... he's stressed at Nine, and is in hiding!

You can simply go on enneagraminstitute.com instead of buying a book to understand what makes up his personality type.
It would be nice to hear more about why he became a type 3 in the first place but that would be more of a life story than noting it showing amidst the scandal

And he's not a type One because he has been pushed to succeed and perform what is needed. He put on a show during past media questioning he put on the illusion of humbleness and considered himself so great all past values didn't matter anymore. Ones are not opportunistic and value doing the what is considered right too much to do such shameful acts. It takes a Three to hit rock-bottom to realize what truly matters, as a One is too introverted and will work it out in his head ahead of time not making so many mis-steps avoiding the feelings of shame. His demeanor on the course would be affected as well, his imperfections and inconsistencies would bother him more boiling over into more anger on the course. Throughout these 4 months he has made a drastic change from pleasing the masses to get girls and put on a facade of a stable life into understand whats right and pleasing himself.
As a One myself I can tell you he's not a One, the childhood is different, the values are different.

Also Type Ones tend to try to keep themselves under control by muting feelings, and primal instincts to and not allow corruption. This is unless they lead themselves to believe they're a bad person at the core, then do horrible acts because they identify themselves as an indecent, and broken person which no signs have shown that to be the case.
