Tiger Woods issued a public statement in his nationally televised press conference Friday morning apologizing for his transgressions. Tiger Woods did not pin point a specific return date to golf but said he would be reentering sex rehab - And turning to Buddhism for spiritual support.
"I recognize I have brought this upon myself," Tiger said in his public statement about his explosive affair scandal. "Above all, I know I am the one that needs to change," he added.
"I owe it to my family to become a better person. I owe it to those close to me to become a better man," Tiger said. "And that's where my focus will be."
In regards to his dedication to complete the "work" he has to do, Tiger referred to "following this path" and updated fans and media on his spiritual health.
"For me," Tiger said. "Is Buddhism - Which my mother taught me at a young age. People probably don't realize it, but I was raised a Buddhist and I actively practiced my faith from childhood until I drifted away from it in recent years."
Tiger continued to explain what Buddhism teaches, a principle that Tiger feels would cancel out his self-professed "entitlement" and "indulgence in temptation."
"Buddhism teaches that a craving for things outside ourselves causes an unhappy and pointless search for security," Tiger said to the press. "It teaches me to stop following every impulse and to learn restraint."
Tiger confessed he "lost track" of what he was taught and is looking to get back on the spiritual path of Buddhism to aide his personal recovery. To get the full press conference recap click here or click here to get free updates on what Tiger's up to next!

Well, we can all sleep a little easier tonight. Tiger Woods has seen the light and appears before us with the proverbial "A" on his chest. Really, he should be sporting an "E" for endorsement, as without some public humility, his future earnings are at stake. Why, really, does anyone give a rat's a** what Tiger has to say about his actions? It's clear the women in the front row are being paid to endure his bs -- are they there to persuade the thinking public that women support anything he has to say? What a load of smoke and mirrors. I'm sure the Buddhists are rolling out the red carpet.
I wonder what he learned from his Father... and sadly it is clear what he is giving to his son. In his "dedication" to youth education the impact of his choices will profoundly impact the values of our black youth and culture.
He blew it.
You are right, we will roll out the red carpet but not because he is Tiger Woods, but because this is what we do for all beings. The way of the Buddha is to accept all and help all, there is no shame in that. He obviously remembers where to go for refuge after realizing he has done wrong, Buddhism teaches how to avoid attachment, he is attached to sex as he says. Tiger you will find the path again. If one is sincerely seeking help through the teachings of Buddha, would one make the public statement that Mr. Woods made? How does "attachment" to fame and fortune factor into Mr. Woods efforts to recover and right himself within the Buddhist philosophy? It seems to me that there is a lot of hiding behind the notion that the addiction is responsible, or that fame and fortune clouded judgement, and his remark suggesting that nobody hold Elan at all responsible is just plain disgusting. Who would? Why would he even throw that into the mix? If he has to make a public statement (and why is that?), a simple, straightforward accepting of responsibility would have been quite refreshing in the wake of the self-aggrandizing parade of recent offenders: I am responsible for the poor choices I made. I betrayed my personal values and the people who love me. I am sorry, and I am committed to repairing this damage."
PERIOD.
...on the part of Woods' handlers -- now the discussion will be about Buddhism rather than Woods' actions. As Twain would say, "Patriotism is the last refuge for scoundrels." Is Buddhism the last refuge for.....deviants? I think I'll head out to laugh at the sky.
